Apple’s much-discussed augmented/virtual reality headset appears to be finally arriving in 2023. The headset would be marketed as the Apple Reality Pro and announced at an event in the spring. The event is expected to take place before the annual WWDC which is usually held in June. Delivery of the headphones is expected to start in the fall.

In the last Power-on edition writes Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman that Apple’s current plan is to announce the headset at an event in the spring. Developers will be introduced to the headset operating system, called xrOS, during WWDC.
“The last postponement, at least for now, took place last year. Until recently, Apple aimed to introduce the headset in January 2023 and ship it later this year. Now the company wants to unveil it this spring before its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June, or so I’ve been told,” Gurman said.
“Under the current plan, Apple could introduce the device to consumers, probably under the name Reality Pro, and then get developers started with the software’s features in June. According to this timeline, the company will launch the product in fall 2023.”
According to Gurman, the arrival of the headphones has also influenced the development of iOS 17, iPadOS 17 and macOS 14. These new versions will appear in the second half of the year and will probably contain less significant innovations than initially expected. Separately, new augmented reality features are being worked on for the Apple Store app and should be almost ready.
We expect the first generation Apple Reality Pro to be a high-end niche product with a steep price tag. Apple will mainly focus on the business market and developers. A cheaper variant will also have to appear for consumers in the future. Apple is already working with various parties on experiences and apps for the new headset and the xrOS operating system.
