The Apple iPhone 14 Pro A16 Bionic chip is still superior to the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile phone

Sukoharjonews.com – Qualcomm just announced its latest and greatest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. While this is the company’s most powerful mobile processor so far, it still appears to be surpassed by the Apple A16 Bionic chip that powers the iPhone 14 series Pros.

Quoted by Gizmochina on Monday (11/21/2022), this news comes from the GeekBench benchmark list (via MacRumors), ahead of all Android smartphones equipped with the new Qualcomm chip. However, looking at the initial GeekBench benchmark results, the next generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is beaten by the A16 Bionic chipset modeled after the Apple iPhone 14 Pro.

Synthetic benchmarks reveal that the Snapdragon SoC scored 1483 points in the single-core test and 4709 points in the multi-core test. Meanwhile, the A16 Bionic processor scored 1874 and 5372 points in each test.

So it is clear that the new chip of the Cupertino giant is still ahead of its Android counterparts. Interestingly, the latest generation iPhone chip, the A15 Bionic, managed to score 1709 points in the single core test, which is even higher than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

This would raise a question about Qualcomm’s claims about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 revolution “landscape of flagship smartphones in 2023”.

Though the company says the advance will set “the new standard for connected computing, intelligently engineered with AI breakthroughs across the board to enable extraordinary experiences.”

In other words, raw performance improvements aren’t the only new feature of the new 8 Gen 2 chipset. Keep in mind that benchmarks don’t always reflect better user experience or real-life performance. But it shows how Apple’s chips, even older models, are still quite capable in today’s market. (dwarf)
