The head of state took part in the commemorative pilgrimage on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the murder of Nikola Yonkov Vaptsarov at the Garrison Shooting Range memorial in Sofia, where the great Bulgarian poet was shot on July 23, 1942 together with Anton Ivanov, Anton Popov, Petar Bogdanov, Georgi Minchev , Atanas Romanov.
“The poet survived all attempts of mediocrity to cast a shadow on his poetic talent. That is why his poems do not grow old, while those of his detractors burden only their own consciences. The anti-fascist Vaptsarov is a martyr to a cause that in recent years the new revisionists are trying to erased from our history. That’s why the vandalism against the anti-fascist monuments,” Radev said in his speech.
