The anti-corruption commission is investigating how Boil Banov bought a house in Koprivshtitsa

KPKONPI suspects that the amount specified in the Notary Deed may be unrealistic

The anti-corruption commission is investigating a deal by which former Culture Minister Boil Banov bought a house in Koprivshtitsa, BNT and bTV reported. According to BNT sources, the property was bought at a price significantly lower than the market price.

KPKONPI suspects that it is possible that the amount specified in the Notary Deed is unrealistic in order to hide an expense for which Banov cannot prove income.

The Anti-Corruption Commission checks the documents with the notary and those in the municipality.

According to bTV sources in the Anti-Corruption Commission, Banov bought the property for BGN 56,000 in 2018 while he was Minister of Culture.

“They asked if there was a tax assessment, if it was declared. The property was declared, they pay their taxes regularly. This was the inspection,” explained the mayor of Koprivshtitsa Boyka Dyulgerova.

The action of KPKONPI was reached after a signal from the civil association “Zograf”. The reason is the suspicion that the price of the property is many times lower than the market price. The mayor of Koprivshtitsa rejected this claim, saying it was a real price because it was an old house with a small yard.

The house was built in the early 20th century and falls into the so-called “For information” category – the lowest for architectural value. However, it is located in an architectural-historical reserve and any change in it must be agreed.

“For more serious things, such as intervention on the facade and so on, you have to go along the canal line. Even if it is not valuable, there may be valuable objects around it,” said arch. Stefan Stoyanov.

Boil Banov declined to comment to bTV, explaining that he would wait for the inspection to end.
