Traditional Psychology Days were held from October 8 to 12, which received a good response from the audience and were organized by the Department of Health Psychology and Pedagogy at Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) together with the Latvian Psychological Association.
There were seven guests from Canada, Iceland, Germany, Portugal and Egypt, as well as researchers and professionals from RSU at this year’s event. Fifteen lectures were given in total, and more than 100 listeners gathered on each of the five days of the event. There was a special emphasis on ecopsychology in the topics presented by guests this year, reflecting the context of the relationship with resources in the current global conditions, highlighting the practical aspects of this approach in overcoming stress and maintaining emotional health, as well as explaining demands in research. This interesting international experience certainly makes it possible to describe more clearly the development opportunities of ecopsychology in Latvia, where people usually have easy access to outdoor resources and motivation for nature as a resource.
Treatment, guidance and certification scheme
Schema therapy should be mentioned as an important topic of the Psychology Days, which took the lecture within the framework of the International Day of Schema Therapy, introducing the concepts of this approach and offering perspective on research. The attention of both students and professionals was attracted by the lectures related to the practical aspects of the psychologist’s profession – on certification and validation, supported by the perspective of a guest lecturer from Iceland on research related to supervision.
Machine learning and artificial intelligence
Lecture on machine learning method (Machine Learning) in psychological research, which is certainly one of the promising directions for future development in this professional field. Continuing the global theme of artificial intelligence, which started last year, this year a guest from Egypt offered an interesting insight into brain activity and the use of artificial intelligence in aspects related to language, expanding ideas on the possibilities of psychological research.
Psychological aspects of aging and adolescent behavioral screening
At the Symposium of Psychology Days, the speakers from the country offered to get to know the intermediate results of the current work of the RSU researchers on the psychological aspects of the aging process, emphasizing the importance What is lifestyle in the context of brain activity. Also, the general audience could get to know the guidelines and facts of the psychology laboratory regarding research instruments and examine the theoretical framework and the structure of the screening instrument for the assessment of adolescent behavioral problems and emotional state.
Psychologists conference and award presentation
A conference organized by the Latvian Psychological Association was organized as part of the Psychology Days The role and development of the psychologist in a changing society and prizes were awarded Psychologist of the year 2024. Award Psychologist of the year 2024 this year, RSU lecturer Dr. psyche. Ilona Krone. Prizes were awarded in three other nominations: for contributing to the development of psychological science, Young Scientist of the Year and to contribute to community mental health.
