As “Delphi” informs the concert organizers, there will be a cliff on a stage Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO), Latvian National Opera Orchestra e Liepaja Symphony Orchestra (LSSO). The program will include compositions by Latvian composers – Jāzeps Vītolas, Helmers Pavasars, Jānis Mediņš, Juras Karlsons, as well as a new work by Ilona Breģes. The soloists of the concert will be the singer Daumants Kalniņš, the violinist Paula Šūmane, the cellist Kristaps Bergs.

The “Great Latvian Symphony Concert” has been a stable part of Latvian concert life for more than fifteen years, according to the organizers. The tradition that started this winter will also continue: professional Latvian symphony orchestras will once again meet on the same stage.

This time, the honor of the premieres has been entrusted to the LSO who, under the guidance of its new chief conductor, Guntas Kuzmas, will play Ilona Brega’s Fourth Symphony. “In my opinion, a symphony is like a novel in music. The driving force of musical thought in the symphony is the message and dramaturgy of the form, which is subject to both melodism and harmony, as well as the use of various sound techniques and orchestral textures. The fourth symphony is dedicated to the memory of my closest person, my late mother Vizbulīte Breģa, ”the author reveals.

“We always celebrate the anniversaries of outstanding Latvian composers, paying special attention to the compositions of these composers. There are three anniversaries this year – Jazeps VitolsHelmers Pavasars and Juris Karlsons,” says Arturs Maskats, artistic director of the concert.

The concert will include Jāzeps Vītolas’ suite “Dārgakmeņi” performed by the Latvian National Opera Orchestra, and the second part of Helmer Pavasaras’ “Concerto for Violin and Orchestra” performed by violinist Paula Šūmane and LNSO Kaspars Ādamsons.

In the second part of the concert, LNSO under the baton of Ainārs Rubiķs will perform “Second Concerto for Cello and Orchestra” by Jānis Mediņš, which will be performed for the first time in Latvia with a symphony orchestra. The soloist in this concert will be cellist Kristaps Bergs

“The concerto was written when Jānis Mediņš was in exile, right after the war, so it was never played in full in Latvia,” says Arturs Maskats.

The concert will also close with this year’s jubilee “Visions of Joseph” by Jura Karlson for baritone and symphony orchestra. The piece was inspired by the Old Testament story, which Raini also liked at one time. This impressive work premiered in the summer of 2015 when singer Daumantas Kalniņas joined the LNSO led by sought-after conductor Ainārs Rubiķs. It is in the reading of these musicians that will also come out in this concert.

Tickets for the concert can be purchased at the “Bilešu paradīze” e on the Internet.
