The announced traffic changes arrive in the Old Town of Jaén | Radio Jaén

Tomorrow, Friday, the announced traffic changes will arrive in the Old Town of Jaén. These changes (although modified) were announced more than a year ago by the mayor of the capital, but the pandemic has delayed all preparations so that they can be carried out. At first, a double meaning was proposed for Almendros Aguilar, but finally the idea was discarded out of respect for the environment, as confirmed by sources from the consistory to this writing.

Starting tomorrow, at 1:00 p.m., there will be a major change of direction in the streets of the La Merced neighborhood “to facilitate mobility in this area of the old town.” These are changes that the neighborhood associations in the area have asked incessantly who have serious mobility problems due to the orography and idiosyncrasy of the set of streets in the old quarter.

The measure is designed by the Local Police Headquarters. “Circulation to Merced Alta via from Carrera de Jesús, through Conde street and Arco Puerta de Granada will be allowed to, once in Merced Alta, continue towards the Plaza de la Merced, and, once there, turn right, towards Merced Baja, or continue circulating through Almendros Aguilar in the direction of the Arco de San Lorenzo ”. Once at this point, obligatorily, “You should take Madre de Dios street, with a turn to the right, if you arrive from Plaza de la Merced, or to the left if you arrive from Plaza de Santiago or Calle Los Ángeles, as is currently the case ”.

Another modification is that the direction of circulation of Merced Baja is also reversed, so that the transit from “Obispo González to Conde and, once at this intersection, continue towards Carrera de Jesús or turn right onto Arco Puerta Granada. In this way, it is possible to connect with, another turn to the right, with Merced Alta ”.

Municipal sources specify that “This reorganization allows the change of direction inside the neighborhood, which benefits residents and users of garages.. The modifications introduced also imply prohibiting circulation from Conde Street to Cruz Rueda Square. Therefore, for vehicles coming from Carrera de Jesús, the only option, at the Camarín level, as long as they do not have permission to access the Plaza de Santa María, is to take Calle Conde and turn left, through Arco Puerta Grenade”.
