The anniversary goal is a long time coming: the EVZ women win, but don’t convince

The Zug women defeated Ambri-Piotta 4-1 on Saturday. The first goal was wonderful to watch: top scorer Lara Stalder saw herself released after a face-off win by Ivana Wey and an assist from Rahel Enzler, went around goalie Sofia Bernardasci and scored coolly. But Ticino’s best points collector, Michaela Pejzlova, also proved her class when she scored the 1-1 after a solo shortly before the end of the second section.
It was a high-quality game with clear advantages for EVZ. But the strong goalkeeper Bernardasci kept the hosts fidgeting – until the 46th minute of the game. Then Naemi Herzig made the decision. The 17-year-old huge talent finished successfully in the power play (46th minute of the game). The other goals were scored by Ivana Wey and Noemi Ryhner. The latter played in the center position as Noemi Neubauerova had left the team for the PWHL.
The fans in the Bossard Arena couldn’t celebrate the 500th championship goal.

One goal is still missing from Zug’s 500th championship goal. This should happen in the first match after the national team break, when the EVZ will compete in Neuchâtel on November 16th. The Zug women were guests there last Friday. Because Annika Fazokas was missing due to a concussion, the Zug team only played with five defenders (Lorena Wrann came on the next day).

But the Zug women presented themselves moodily on Friday in Neuchâtel and “only” won 5-0 against a team that was actually overwhelmed. It obviously didn’t help that the goals came so easily in the first half (3-0). The 1-0 was reminiscent of last season in the SWHL B. Lara Stalder curved past four opponents and scored. And for the third goal, Stalder and Rahel Enzler played a one-two across the entire field. The two are tied at the top with 23 points in 11 meetings Liga-Skorerliste.
“We started well, but then we lost track,” Lara Stalder criticized herself after the game. The “complicated game” of her team was also reflected in many penalties. In fact, a Zuger was in the penalty box eight times, while the opponent was only half as often. Given the clear balance of power, this was irritating. The fact that EVZ goalie Eveliina Mäkinen was still able to celebrate her second shutout of the season said a lot about the Neuchâtel women’s limited options.
