On Wednesday, Rinkēvičs hosted the participants of the third parliamentary summit of the Crimean International Platform in the Riga Palace, including the chairs of the parliaments of Albania, Austria, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Estonia, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Poland, Portugal, Finland, Switzerland, Tonga, Ukraine, Germany and North Macedonia.
In the first half of the day, President Edgars Rinkevičs met with the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslana Stefanchuk, discussing support for Ukraine and issues related to the International Platform Parliamentary Conference the Crimea. During the conversation, Rinkēvičs confirmed that Latvia is willing to maintain all kinds of support for Ukraine, including Euro-Atlantic integration and the energy sector, in preparation for the winter.
During the meeting with the participants of the summit, Rinkevičs emphasized that the annexation of the Crimean peninsula is an essential part of the process to end the war and ensure peace. The President also said that Latvia will never recognize the illegally annexed territories of Ukraine.
“The Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as other temporarily occupied territories, belong to the sovereign and inalienable state of Ukraine,” Rinkevich said.
