After two years of the Covid-19 crisis, training for the certificate of aptitude for the functions of animators is resuming. And despite the still strong tensions in the animation sector, the disposals find their candidates.

After two difficult years and with the approach of school holidays, leisure centers urgently need manpower. But the Bafa training, the certificate of aptitude for the functions of facilitator, is far from over. “In recent months we have received one job offer per day to be distributed in our network, underlines Virginie Pouilloux, director of the departmental association of Francas Charente-Maritime. This is a big difficulty for leisure centers.” A problem which obliges certain structures to reduce their reception capacity, for lack of supervision. “We have quotas for young people without qualifications, says Virginie Pouilloux, but it remains limited and does not fill the gaps.”

So for this first week of July, about thirty young people from the Great West are preparing their animation certificate with this association. By respecting certain conditions: be at least 17 years old on the first day of the training and validate the three compulsory stages of the latter. The young people embark on a first theoretical part, in order to acquire the basic notions of animation, then a practical part in the form of an internship of at least 14 days in a holiday camp or leisure reception center and of a second in-depth course.
Some, like Jules, 17, from Niort, were impatiently waiting to start training. “All my family works in animation, so I really wanted to work in this sector. I already have contracts at the end of July and the beginning of August.” For his part, Alexis, who came from La Rochelle, is already considering summer camp contracts. “By doing camp abroad I could travel and I love it. Even if I’m going to start by doing my first internship in La Rochelle.”
Obtaining contracts is the objective for these young people who often have to finance part of their training themselves. In total, the cost is about 1000 euros. “The State offers aid of 200 euros to help families finance training, indicates Virginia Pouilloux. These envelopes are distributed by the regions.” Aid aimed above all at attracting candidates. “Almost all our assignments are filled, adds the director of the association. The young people return to the Bafa.”
For Gilles Corbion, director of the Departmental Sports Center of Charente-Maritime, however, other measures will be needed to rekindle the enthusiasm for the entertainment sector. “The current model is no longer suitable. We should be able to accommodate our seasonal employees and provide them with accommodation… but also raise wages.” In the meantime, the new graduates will complete the staff of animators in the camps and leisure centers in a few weeks. But surely not in sufficient numbers to fill the current deficit.

For small budgets, other aids are available:

- The town hall: not all provide aid but do not hesitate to contact yours for information.
- The department: some departments offer financial aid, but not all.
- The region: good news the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region grants aid, all the information is to be found on this link.
- Finally you can turn to your departmental directorate of youth and sports (dependent on the Ministry of Youth). This aid is primarily intended for students, job seekers or recipients of social minima.
