The Animal Blood Bank was inaugurated at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

The Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the UNNE inaugurated this Friday the Animal Blood Bank service, in agreement with the Bansacor foundation. The dean commented that the Ministry of Public Health and the Municipality of Corrientes, among others, also participate. This new area will operate in the Veterinary School Hospital, which provides service to the community and functions as a teaching, research and extension instrument.

The novel proposal arose from the need for a collection center for vital liquid to save the lives of animals that are in danger. Cipolini Galarza commented that “it is a joy to make this dream come true,” adding that “there are banks that are private and being institutional is an instance of learning and a provision of service.”

It should be noted that the donors and recipients would, in the first instance, be the animals considered pets. As in humans, dogs and cats have blood groups, so when performing a transfusion, you must know the blood type of the donor and the recipient.

Blood transfusions in animals are only performed from animal to animal, which can delay the process and endanger lives in urgent need of transfusions.
