Delia passed away on Wednesday (November 18th), after 11 days of coma and 3 years and 3 months of suffering. Although overwhelmed with grief, the girl’s parents had the power to make the decision to donate their daughter’s organs so that three sick children on the transplant waiting list could receive a new chance at life.
On Wednesday (November 18), at the Oradea County Hospital, a team of doctors took the kidneys and the liver, organs that reached sick children, close to Delia’s age. “When we realized she was brain dead and out of luck, my husband and I decided to go for organ harvesting, to give other children a chance at a new life, to make other parents happy.” said Diana Berari, the girl’s mother.
Delia’s story is very painful. The Bari couple from Chisinau wanted a second child. They already had Mihăiţă, and Delia was born with a lot of love and joy. The mother chose to give birth at the Medpark Maternity Hospital in Chisinau. Only the day the little girl “announced” her clinical arrival was deserted. The doctor who had supervised her mother’s pregnancy had promised that she would be there when she gave birth. Unfortunately, this did not happen.
“At 2.20, the amniotic sac broke, and the doctors, who came late, allowed the baby to be taken out of the womb at 3.00. Until then, they held his hand so that he could not go out “, Diana said. The little girl suffered serious traumas due to lack of oxygen: she had hearing problems, could not use her hands and feet, and for a long time, she was fed by a probe. The parents started a hard fight to recover Delia. The girl was regularly taken to a clinic in Italy. That’s what happened almost two weeks ago. Her parents were returning with her from Italy, but in Hungary, the little girl had a high fever and convulsions. She was hospitalized at the Hungarian hospital Szolnok, where she was in a coma for 11 days. Unfortunately, Delia died of a brain death, and her parents requested her transfer to Oradea.
