The ancient settlement is being studied by archaeologists in the Kostanay region

news-id-113206" style="display:inline;">In the Kostanay region, archaeologists are exploring a fortified settlement of the Bronze Age. Scientists have been working on the territory of the Denisovsky district near the border with Russia for several years. Now specialists are studying structures: dwellings, wells, outbuildings. They completed their next field season just the other day. Found many new artifacts. Archaeologists will study them in detail in their laboratory, Tengrinews.kz reports with reference to 24.kz.

During the next excavation, many artifacts were found. Among them are parts of ceramic dishes, parts of spinning devices and various metal products. They belong to the period of Sintashta and Petrovka. And they are about four thousand years old.

“The monument is unique. Because it is the only one on the territory of Kazakhstan itself. It is significant for us. And in general, in principle, I think, for domestic archeology. This is a monument to metallurgists. In every dwelling we have a stove and wells. That’s all associated with metallurgy. There is a lot of slag. Everything there speaks of a metallurgical process,” says Irina Shevnina, researcher at the archaeological laboratory of the Akhmet Baitursynov KRU.

Scientists became aware of the Kamysty settlement in the 90s. A group of archaeologists led by Irina Shevnina and Andrey Logvin have been working here for three years. This season, the excavations lasted 50 days. Kamysty is considered a proto-city. It is the only one in Kazakhstan. The rest are located on the territory of the Southern Urals. And there are 30 of them in total.

“Almost completely the dwelling, quite large, was opened up. Our research will continue in any case. Because it is necessary to conduct cameral processing of all the material that we received. To comprehend the relationship of these artifacts between themselves and the structural elements that we found at the excavation. This program was designed for three years. This year was the last year. It was funded by the Department of Culture. But we hope that research will continue in this regard. Because the monument is very interesting, “explains Andrey Logvin, head of the archaeological laboratory of the Akhmet Baitursynov KRU.

According to archaeologists, the monument is considered emergency. One half of it ended up under a rural dump. Potatoes were previously planted on the other. The scientists tried to choose a site that was least affected by human activity.
