Whether you call upon the god Osiris, the goddess Ptah, or the sun lord Re, bring rich offerings to them, for they have heard your call. All you lovers of pyramids, Egypt and Cleopatra – and especially building video games – you have received a truly divine gift. A modernized version of the famous construction strategy has just been released Pharaoh with a subtitle A New Era.
Original Pharaoh was published twenty-four years ago. It offered an enticing setting in ancient Egypt with gameplay similar to other construction simulators such as Sim City – or actually even better as a similarly popular series Caesar, which, like the Pharaonic game, was produced by the Impressions Games studio. Now his creation is reawakening in a more noble garb thanks to the younger developers of Triskell Interactive, but with the same rich filling of its coffers.
Pharaoh: A New Era will guide you through four thousand years of ancient Egyptian history. In fifty missions, you will build, manage and beautify settlements on the Nile and elsewhere, erect temples to ancient deities, build an animal sphinx with a human head and, of course, pyramids that rise towards the sun god Re. Or you will solve why the poor in your town are in need and do not get food or shelter. Just as fun to play as an ancient ruler as it was in 1999.
So the remake does not affect the golden core of the gameplay, but otherwise improves the building game in every imaginable way. The most noticeable one is, of course, the appearance, which is now presented in 4K quality, although of course it retains the charm of two-dimensional graphics in an isometric perspective. The first look is then followed by the first listen, where you’ll record a new recording of the classic soundtrack using traditional Egyptian instruments.
The game controls have also received changes for the better, which are more user-friendly and clearer, so that even the construction of ancient metropolises and new wonders of the world is a little more comfortable. Those who don’t like micromanagement will be pleased with the easier management of your city’s workers. The developers literally mention hundreds of modifications, which, according to them, are not supposed to change what z pharaoh made the game a hit. Which, by the way, celebrated over a million copies sold just a year after its release.
The remake actually benefits from the success of the original, Pharaoh was expanded shortly after its release Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile – and components A New Era so is its content. He moves the game from the time of Tutankhamun and Ramesses to the era of the Ptolemies and flirting with the Roman Empire. By the way, they are already dedicated to the earlier titles of the original developers of the series Caesar. But in that one you build around the Tiber rather than the Nile, and instead of the pyramids you build a colosseum.
Similar to the older pattern and its extension, i Pharaoh: A New Era offer over a hundred hours of building fun. It also combines this with history education, even in the remake there is no shortage of historical information about Egyptian society, which you help to build in the game. Return to the Pyramids is out on PC across platforms Steam a GOG and it will cost you roughly 540 crowns, even a little less as part of the promotion for the release.
A pleasant addition for domestic enthusiasts of ancient Egypt or fans of ruler simulators will be the fact that Czech fans pharaoh they already have the remake translation ready. To the creators from the server Lokalizace.net only the last steps in testing the Czech language remain before it will be possible to learn it Pharaoh: A New Era download.
