The total amount of payments made by Latvian payment institutions and electronic money institutions, including in e-money, has reached 159.7 million lats. euro – by 3% more than in the 1st half of 2020, according to the data compiled by the Financial and Capital Market Commission.
The amount of payments made by payment institutions remained at the level of the first half of the previous year, while the amount of payments made by electronic money institutions (including e-money) has increased by 17%.
Compared to June 30, last year, the average amount of e-money in circulation has increased by 3% – to 4.1 million. euro.
In turn, the amount of redeemed e-money has decreased by 6% – up to 7.5 million. euro, which indicates the growing popularity of this type of money, the FCMC points out.
Gross income from payments made by institutions in the first half of this year has reached 5 million. euro – it is 11% less than in the first half of 2020.
As of 30 June, there were seven payment institutions in Latvia, of which two were registered and five were licensed, and eight electronic money institutions, of which six were registered and two were licensed.
