The Ami.es du boisé Quévillon change their name

ENVIRONMENT. The Ami.es du boisé Quévillon will henceforth be called “Les Ami.es des boisés de Granby”, announced the organization which campaigns in favor of better protection of natural environments in urban areas.

Born last March following a mobilization surrounding the conservation of the Quévillon woodland, the group, which has 170 members, therefore wishes to extend its interventions throughout the city in order to preserve the six natural environments present in the perimeter.

“The founding members of the Ami.es du boisé Quévillon were able to discuss with many citizens the issue of the conservation of natural environments in the
urbanization perimeter. Several said they supported our request that the Boisé Quévillon, a 60-hectare natural environment north of the Terre-Fox park, be preserved to become a nature park, said in a press release, Michel Laliberté, one of the founding members of the Friends of the Quévillon woodland.

“However, they (citizens) pointed out to us that we should also be interested in natural environments in other sectors of the city. That’s what we did. We were able to visit the five other natural environments identified by the City of Granby in its Natural Environment Conservation Policy.
As with the Quévillon woodland, these five natural environments are of great ecological wealth. We must find ways to preserve them, ”added Mr. Laliberté.

In addition, the group, which has recently become a non-profit organization, will hold a constituent assembly this fall to elect a board of directors.
