The hockey players of the United States of America defeated Germany high 6: 1 in the duel for third place at the World Championships in Riga and won bronze for the fourth time in the last eight championships.
Three points per goal and two assists contributed to the success of Jack Capuan’s team coach Conor Garland, three recordings were recorded by Tage Thompson.
The Germans did not reach the first medal at the World Championships from silver in 1953 from Switzerland. They did not build on the historic success of the Pyongy Olympics, where others also finished three years ago.
After 58 seconds, the Americans had to defend themselves in the four-minute suspension of Jason Robertson, during which they resisted. In addition, four seconds after the end of the weakening, they rejoiced in the lead. Defender Christian Wolanin took Matthias Plachta’s puck in the defensive zone and ended the escape with a successful backhand bluff.
The Germans had the upper hand, but goalkeeper Cal Petersen covered their shooting attempts. More dangerous was Robertson’s attempt on the other side of the right circle. The American goalkeeper dealt with a shot by Markus Eisenschmid from a position between the circles.
In the second act, the Germans’ dream of success faded. Goalkeeper Felix Brückmann still managed to shoot Garland and Matt Tennyson, but in the 27th minute, after Robertson’s shot from the blue line, he hit Garland’s shot. In 98 seconds in renumbering, Sasha Chmelevski released Jack Drury, who adjusted the backhand to 3: 0 with a bluff.
In the middle of the match, with the exclusion of Tage Thompson, she helped Petersen a pole after a shot by Dominika Kahu, a native of Planá near Mariánské Lázně. The Americans, on the other hand, punished Placht’s foul in the 32nd minute and Robertson scored from the right circle.
In 40 seconds, in another numerical advantage, Trevor Moore increased to 5: 0, who after Garland’s shot reached the goal and overtook Brückmann more than twice. In the second part, the Germans were still unable to use a five-minute power play after the elimination of Khmelevsky, during which they played two minutes in five against three after a foul by Colin Blackwell.
Petersen kept his account clean in the 48th minute with Tobias Rieder’s escape, but in 49:28 Dominik Bittner overcame it after Placht’s pass. Shortly before, Brückmann had eliminated Moore’s great chance. But the Americans led again by five goals in 25 seconds. After an ideal pass by Adam Clendening, Ryan Donato directed the puck to the open goal and finished the score.
