The American stock index Dow Jones exceeded 30,000 points for the first time in history – ČT24 – Czech Television

Behind the rise in stocks is progress in the development of the covid-19 vaccine and a report by the US president Donald Trump has instructed his team to begin work on handing over power to newly elected President Joe Biden.

According to the AP, the mood on the stock market was also supported by the information that Biden’s candidate for the post of Minister of Finance will be the former head of the US Federal Reserve, Janet Yellen.

The index managed to reach the limit of 30,000 points less than four years after exceeding 20,000 points for the first time in January 2017.

Other leading US stock indices are also growing. The broader S&P 500 adds 1.5 percent after 8 p.m., and the Nasdaq, which includes major technology stocks, is up 1.2 percent.

Tuesday was also favorable for European stocks. The British FTSE 100 index rose 1.55 percent, the German DAX by 1.26 percent, the French CAC 40 by 1.21 percent and the pan-European STOXX 600 added 0.91 percent.

The Prague Stock Exchange stagnated on Tuesday. The PX index rose, but only by 0.1 percent to 956.13 points. Most major emissions were lost or stagnated. The decline in the stock market was mainly hindered by strengthening stocks of banks.
