The American company Ball is the world’s leading manufacturer of infinitely recyclable sheet metal packaging. On Thursday, it began construction of a new plant in Pilsen in the Panattoni Pilsen Digital Park industrial zone.
The construction was symbolically started by Carey Causey, President of Ball Beverage Packaging for the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa), together with Pavel Šindelář, Mayor of Pilsen. The hammers tapped the foundation stone of aluminum beverage cans, which was supposed to symbolize their recyclability.
“Demand for more sustainable packaging is generally growing rapidly. It is therefore essential that our company continues to invest in supporting not only our growth but also the growth of our customers and society as a whole,” said Carey Causey, president of Ball Beverage Packaging EMEA.
The new plant is to start production at the beginning of 2023, thus complementing the existing production in Dýšina near Pilsen, which the company has been operating for 25 years. The plant is to cover an area of over 100,000 m 22. The company is investing 170 million euros (4.5 billion crowns) in construction, which is the largest investment of its kind in the Czech Republic this year.
“We have been operating in the Czech Republic for 25 years. I am therefore excited that it can create further job opportunities in the field of sustainable production right here in the Pilsen region, which has both a quality workforce and a strong industrial heritage,” added Carey Causey.
Thanks to the project, about 200 people will get the job. The company has already started recruiting them so that it can train new employees before the plant opens.
“We have launched a major recruitment campaign since the beginning of March. We need to train and train our new employees to be ready in time to start production in 2023. This process will take several months, so we are hiring today,” said Radek Mádr, General Manager. Director of Ball Beverage Packaging Czech Republic.
