US ambassador Amos Hockstein from Beirut stressed on Wednesday that “there is no time left to waste” to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, as it would also allow a diplomatic solution to be reached that stops the escalation between Hezbollah and Israel, on the the night before the round of talks through mediators.
Hockstein said after his meeting with the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, who heads the Amal Movement, a friend of Hezbollah, “I spoke with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Berri, about the proposed framework agreement for a ceasefire in Gaza, and we agreed that there is no time left to waste and that there are no valid excuses for further delay.”
He believed that “the agreement will help reach a diplomatic solution here in Lebanon, which will prevent the start of a wider war,” as Hezbollah and Israel have been exchanging fire across the border since the start of the war in today’s Gaza Strip. after the October 7 Hamas attack.
He said: “We need to seize this window for diplomatic action and diplomatic solutions. The time is now.”
