A direct airline between New York and Algiers, much in demand by many Algerians living in the United States, is also the desire of Americans. Indeed, in a message published on social networks this Sunday, November 13, the US ambassador in Algeria asked for the opening of a direct airline between the two cities.
It is not the first time that there has been talk of the project to open a direct airline linking the airport of Algiers to that of New York in the United States. A line much in demand by the Algerian community established in the USA, especially in New York. The choice of New York is dictated by the fact that most of the Algerian community in the United States is concentrated in the northern part of the country’s east coast.
Last May, the Air Algérie spokesman, who spoke about the national company’s new summer schedule, quoted the project of a direct airline between Algeria and the USA. “Before the Covid-19 pandemic, we had drawn up a development plan that targeted Nigeria and Cameroon in Africa and the United States in North America. It is up to us to implement it, since the conditions are once again met,” said Amine Andaloussi, in an interview with the Gate 7 website.
A month later, it was the head of state Abdelmadjid Tebboune who spoke of the plan to open an airline between Algeria and the United States. During the inauguration of the 53rd edition of the Algiers International Fair (FIA), on June 14, and in which the United States attended as guests of honor, Abdelmadjid Tebboune stated that “Algeria is ready to open an airline between Algiers and New York”.

The Head of State specified that the opening of the this new direct line between Algiers and New York could see the light of day by the end of this year. This announcement of the opening of a direct line between Algeria and the United States came a few days after the one made on June 9 by Abdelmadjid Tebboune on the project of an airline between Algiers and the Venezuelan capital, Caracas.
Nearly six months after this announcement, the direct airline between New York and Algiers is still in the planning stages. A project that the American ambassador in Algeria wishes to see materialised, as she underlined this Sunday, November 13th. “The US Embassy in Algiers supports the creation of a direct airline between New York and Algiers to allow more American citizens to visit wonders like Timgad,” the US Embassy said in a statement posted on its page Facebook.
The US ambassador’s announcement was made after a tourist visit she made to the Aurès region in eastern Algeria. In a short video in front of the Roman amphitheater in Timgad, posted on the embassy’s Facebook page, the US diplomat defined the place as “one of the wonders of Algeria”. For her, “the opening of a direct line between Algeria and the United States will facilitate the arrival of American tourists to visit beautiful places like Timgad”.
