The amendment that allowed judges to be appointed as chief prosecutors was removed by parliamentarians from the draft justice laws

The amendment that judges could be appointed as chief prosecutors was removed by MPs on Monday from the Justice Laws project, according to truth. PSD leader Marcel Ciolacu declared exclusively for G4Media, last week, not to support this amendment, after journalist Dan Tăpălagă pointed out in an editorial because this change is harmful.

The special parliamentary committee for the examination of justice laws on Monday expressed a favorable opinion, with amendments, on the draft on the status of judges and prosecutors. The report, which received 16 “in favor” and six “against” votes, will enter the plenary debate of the Chamber of Deputies, which is the first legislative forum on this project, the Adevărul journalists also note. The parliamentarians removed the amendment according to which “the Attorney General of the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the High Court of Cassation and Justice is appointed by the President of Romania, on the proposal of the Minister of Justice, with the approval of the section for prosecutors of the Superior Council of the Judiciary, among magistrates who have a minimum seniority of 15 years in the office of public prosecutor or judge, for a period of 3 years, with the possibility of reappointment only once, in the same way “, the remaining text in the version of the Government.

PSD leader Marcel Ciolacu told G4Media.ro on Thursday that he does not support the amendment that judges can be appointed to the post of chief prosecutor, which was voted on Wednesday in the special committee by PSD, PNL and UDMR MPs.

The amendment was presented by a deputy from national minorities, Ibram Iusein, who did not even step forward to support it, but was immediately voted on, without debate, by the coalition parties. However, Iusein passes for a close relative of Florin Iordache, a former minister of justice in the Dragnea era.

Prosecutor General Gabriela Scutea released a point of view for G4Media on Wednesday, in which she criticized the amendment voted by PSD, PNL and UDMR.
