KOMPAS.com – Indonesian Ambassador to the UK, Desra Believe, wants the government and the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) to boycott All England.
The desire came after Desra Percaya communicated with the British government, the National Health Service (NHS), Poul-Erik Hoyer Larsen (President BWF), and Adrian Christy (Chairman of the British Badminton Federation).
The communication relates to the case of the seven Indonesian representatives in All England Open 2021 was forced to resign by the BWF and the organizing committee on the first day of the tournament, Wednesday (17/3/2021).
The Red and White Squad was forced to withdraw from All England 2021 because there was one plane with a person who tested positive for Covid-19 on a flight from Istanbul to Birmingham.
The Indonesian team then received direct directions from the British health authorities (NHS) to carry out isolation for 10 days until March 23, 2021.

The polemic was what made Desra Percaya and the Indonesian government together with PBSI communicate with related parties.
From the results of communication with related parties, Desra Percaya concluded that the BWF and the All England 2021 committee were incapable of holding tournaments during the corona virus pandemic.
The first thing that Desra Percaya highlighted was how the BWF and the All England committee treated the seven Indonesian representatives after knowing the NHS email the players received.
Desra Percaya assessed that the BWF and the All England committee should protect the seven Indonesian representatives who had openly informed the email from the NHS.
However, BWF and the committee actually seemed to neglect seven Indonesian representatives, such as not providing transportation to the hotel until they lost their hands when the players were required to carry out self-quarantine by the British government.

According to Desra Percaya, this is proof that BWF and the All England 2021 pantia are incompetent in holding tournaments.
As a result, Desra Percaya wants the Indonesian government and PBSI to boycott All England to give lessons to BWF and the organizing committee this year.
“So, maybe it’s too early to boycott. However, as a badminton fan and also a fan of Indonesian players, my answer is to boycott the All England !,” Desra Percaya said in a virtual press conference via the Indonesian Embassy in London, Friday (19/3/2021 ).
“The Indonesian team has been treated riotously here. That’s not true. I know my answer is not diplomatic. However, this is my emotion and reaction,” said Desra Percaya.
“If the question about the boycott was addressed to me not as a diplomat, I would be very upset. They do not provide a vehicle for our players. The players are also treated like that,” said Desra Percaya.
“The logic is like this, the Indonesian team is good at reporting the email from the NHS to the committee. What BWF should have done is to protect and defend Indonesian players,” said Desra Percaya.
“BWF should ask for an exception for Indonesian players. At least BWF has made good efforts against Indonesian players. However, this is not. The players were immediately asked to resign. Where is the communication?” said Desra Percaya added.

Apart from that, Desra Percaya said that the desire to boycott All England was his personal opinion.
Desra Percaya said that Indonesia’s attitude towards All England after this year’s implementation would later be discussed by the government and also PBSI.
“Regarding the boycott issue, Ricky Subagja (manager of the Indonesian badminton team) and PBSI will be more competent to answer,” he said. Desra believed.
“The Indonesian government and PBSI will later discuss to determine the attitude and options that can be taken,” said Desra Percaya.
“For example, it is okay for All England to go on but the points achieved by becoming champions are not counted in the world player rankings. This is an option,” said Desra Percaya.
“Second, of course there must be improvements in health protocols. They must promise that incidents like this will not happen again,” said Desra Percaya.
“If there is no such thing, then why should we join All England again. We also have no shortage of big tournaments. For example like that,” Desra Percaya added.
Most recently, Ricky Subagja said that the Indonesian team will most likely return to Indonesia on Sunday (21/9/2021).
The Indonesian team was able to leave early after the government and PBSI lobbied related parties for an exception.
