The AMB will not regulate the taxi sector in August

Yesterday Thursday, a meeting took place between the associations of the taxi sector, the Metropolitan Taxi Institute and the Department of Territories and Sustainability of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

One of the main topics to be discussed was the regulation for the month of August due to the current situation of economic and health crisis that the sector is suffering in Barcelona,

In this regard, no agreement was reached and the IMET will not regulate the fleet, as the taxi associations had been demanding.

All the associations representing the sector had unanimously requested regulatory measures to adapt the taxi offer to 50% during the month of August.

However, both the Generalitat and the IMET have refused to carry out a regulation, which will imply that as of tomorrow, August 1, 8,000 taxis will be in the street idling due to lack of demand .

This is how the associations expressed themselves in a statement to which Todo Taxi has had access:

“We strongly condemn the lack of will that the IMET has shown from the outset, when it comes to adjusting the supply of taxis to the current low demand.

The taxi sector in the AMB is experiencing an extreme situation, which can lead to an unprecedented conflict.

According to the associations, they will meet today Friday to try to reach an agreement in the sector, which all indicates that they will try to carry out self-regulation.

“Faced with this serious situation, the signatories of the regulation pact requested from IMET on April 24, will meet on Friday, July 31, to seek to reach a SECTORAL AGREEMENT that dignifies our activity during the worst month of August in the history of the taxi, without tourism and with economic activity stopped ».
