Spatial Development Scenarios

The proposals concerning Chalkida and Lilandio focus on issues of urban planning, protection of cultural heritage and strengthening of tourism and environmental development. The proposals of the Municipality of Chalkide that have already been submitted and are expected to be resubmitted include specific actions for the development of these two areas.

Suggestions for Chalkida

1. Full pedestrianization of the Castle area: The highlighting of historical buildings with the transfer of the building factor is foreseen. Particular emphasis is placed on the church of Agia Paraskevi, the Fortress and the Folklore Museum.
2. Characterization of cultural buildings: It is proposed to convert historical buildings, such as the Georgiadis building, the OSE warehouse and the Red House, into cultural centers.
3. Highlighting the area of ​​Arethousa: Specifically, it is proposed to protect and preserve the springs of Arethousa and the neighboring industrial buildings.
4. Transfer of public services: It is planned to transfer the Chalkida Prisons, the Fire Service and the Police Department to the area of ​​the old shooting range.
5. Expansion and consolidation of areas: Major urban expansions and changes are proposed, such as the inclusion of parts of Kanitho, the Worker’s Housing and district G’ in the city plan.
6. Elevation of the beach front: The Municipality of Chalkide requests the maintenance of tourist use in the coastal part of district A, as well as the conversion of the area from Faro to Liani Ammos into a public, sports and leisure area.

Suggestions for Lilandio

1. Highlighting cultural heritage: In Lilandio, it is planned to highlight important historical sites such as Xeropolis, the Two Towers and the Castle of the Leaves.
2. Creation of theme parks and bike paths: Proposals include the creation of theme parks in Alykes Kopanas and the lake of Fillas, as well as cycle paths connecting the area of ​​Mytikas with Agios Nikolaos and the beachfront of Lampsakou.
3. Tourist development of the beach front: The tourism development of the SELMAN area is requested, as well as the establishment of parts of the beach front as a second residence.
4. Expansion and urbanization of settlements: The proposals include the expansion of the Vassilikos town plan, the re-demarcation of the settlements of Agios Nikolaos, Mytikas and Phyllos, as well as the urban development of all settlements except Mytikas.
5. Sustainable development: It is proposed to legalize uses consistent with agricultural production in the area of ​​Mytikas, as well as the recording of existing productive uses to create conditions for sustainable development.

Cultural and Residential Development

Local cultural and sports centers, primary schools, kindergartens and other communal facilities are proposed for each neighborhood of Chalkida and Lilanti, with the aim of improving the quality of life of the residents and strengthening local development.
