The almost 20-year-long US military presence in Afghanistan is over. Taliban take over Kabul airport – Abroad – News

It has already been reported that the last US military aircraft – the large C-17 transport plane – took off from Kabul airport a minute before midnight local time. The US Ambassador Ross Wilson also left Afghanistan on this plane.

Some 123,000 Americans, Afghans and foreign nationals have fled Afghanistan in the US evacuation. Evacuation operations were also carried out by other countries.

As a result, the nearly twenty-year-old US military presence in Afghanistan is over.

Immediately after the departure of US troops, the airport was taken over by the Taliban. It was later traversed by Taliban leaders.

Taliban spokesman Zabihulla Mujahideen, standing on the runway, congratulated the Afghans on the Taliban’s victory.

“Congratulations to the Afghans (..). This victory belongs to us all,” Mujahideen said, adding that the Taliban want good diplomatic relations with the United States and the world.

The Taliban captured Kabul in their hands on August 15. Since then, the international airport has experienced chaotic scenes. Thousands of Afghans surrounded the airport and several people crashed, trying to hold on to the side of a C-17 transport plane. At least 169 people, including 13 US soldiers, were killed in a suicide attack at the airport gates by a Islamic State terrorist group last week.

With the withdrawal of US and other foreign military contingents from Afghanistan, the Taliban launched a general offensive operation this month and quickly seized almost the entire territory. Taliban control alone has not come under Taliban control, where Taliban opponents have established a center of resistance to the radical Islamist regime.
