The allowance for low-income residents of Amsterdam has doubled this year

This year, the municipality will double the Individual Income Allowance (ITT) once for Amsterdam residents who have a long-term low income and who have no prospect of improvement for the time being. The amount will be paid to around 28,000 Amsterdam residents around 9 December.

Single people or single parents will not receive 85 euros this year, but 170 euros. Those who live with a partner do not receive 170 euros, but 340 euros per household.

“The prices of food, energy and other basic necessities have risen so rapidly this year that the social security of many Amsterdammers is under pressure. As many of the government’s nationwide purchasing power measures will not go into effect Until next year, we want low-income Amsterdammers and Weespers to act now. They already give support in the rear,” said Alderman Marjolein Moorman (Poverty).

Annual supplement

The ITT is an annual allowance for Amsterdammers and Weespers who have been on low income for three years or more. To apply for the ITT you must live in Amsterdam or Weesp, be over 21 and have had low income and low wealth in 2019, 2020 and 2021. Also, there must be little or no chance that your income situation will improve in the short term . The ITT does not apply to Amsterdammers receiving an AOW subsidy.

In September, the City Council announced that this year the child credit on the city pass will be increased once up to a maximum of €100 for this group. Low-income Amsterdammers who face extra energy costs due to their illness or disability will also receive an extra 100 euros, and Amsterdammers undergoing debt restructuring will not have to pay their monthly repayments in full this winter.
