The Alleged Plot to Kidnap or Liquidate Taghi in Dubai: New Developments in Marengo Trial

Dubai police almost arrested Dutch mobster Ridouan Taghi in 2019, around the same time as they mistook Irish mafia boss Daniel Kinahan as Taghi’s lookalike. Taghi was later arrested by Dubai authorities and extradited to the Netherlands where he is currently facing charges relating to 10 murders, drug trafficking, and leading a criminal organization that was suspected of shooting dead a lawyer. Kinahan was also under surveillance in Dubai by Dutch police who were desperate to catch Taghi, with whom he had been linked in secret police papers. In a surprising turn, Taghi’s lawyer has requested a pre-trial hearing to investigate new information provided by a suspected drug smuggler about discussions on the possibility of Taghi being kidnapped or liquidated in Dubai in 2019 by the elite special forces unit of the Royal Netherlands Army, in the presence of a Dutch public prosecutor. The hearing aims to clarify the Public Prosecution Service’s role in the meeting about Taghi, who was a suspect in several murders.
