The Alhambra begins the ‘Between Books and Heritage’ program, four literary walks through the monument and the Albaicín – News

The Board of Trustees of the Alhambra and Generalife, attached to the Ministry of Culture and Sports, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the declaration by UNESCO of the Alhambra and Generalife as World Heritage of Humanity and the 30th anniversary of the extension to the neighborhood of Albaicín has scheduled a wide and varied number of activities for this year 2024 and, among them, today we present the ‘Between Books and Heritage’ program. It is a series of literary itineraries with the aim of visiting heritage spaces such as the Monumental Complex of the Alhambra and the Generalife, the Albaicín and other corners of Granada, with the help of the protagonists of four novels and historical essays. These walks will take place on October 26 and 27 and November 9 and 10 at 10:30 a.m.

The literary walks will be guided by the authors of the selected books or by experts in them, always having the Alhambra and the Albaicín as a narrative space, which will allow attendees to live a literary and heritage experience, learning about deepens the characters and places of the books, through direct interaction with their creators.

The tour on October 26 will correspond to the work ‘Huyendo a Granada’ and will be guided by Victoria Eugenia Muñoz Jiménez. Led by Bashira, the protagonist of the novel, participants will walk through 15th century Granada, visiting places in the plot such as the Bañuelo, the Corral del Carbón, the Maristán or the Moorish house Horno de Oro, among other spaces. Topics such as religious faith, slavery, war or death and also love and friendship will be recurring in this walk, a plea in favor of the fight for women’s access to culture.

On Sunday, October 27, it will be the turn of ‘The Light of Granada’, which through its author Fex Maldonado, will pose a series of enigmas to be solved together with the protagonist of the novel, Germán, an architecture student who receives a mysterious message from the past that will change your life forever. This literary tour will take attendees to places as special as the Palace of Charles V, the Casa de Zafra or Bañuelo.

On November 9, Montserrat Morillas, Graduate in Art History and Official Tourism Guide, will be in charge of showing us the book ‘Days like those’ on a literary walk through the Alhambra. Granada, 1924′, an essay by Alfonso Alegre Heitzmann that recreates some of the walks that Juan Ramón Jiménez and his wife, Zenobia Camprubí, took with Federico García Lorca and his family in the summer of 1924.

The last tour, on November 10, will be that of the book ‘Isabel de Solís. Soraya’ where Brígida Gallego Coín, author of the book, shows us the passion that the captive Christian Isabel de Solís experienced with Sultan Mulay Hacen. In this story we will walk through the streets of Granada and the Alhambra recreating the story of the protagonists, their feelings, the difficult plot of history, the palace intrigues and the moments prior to the loss of the Nasrid Granada about to fall into the hands Castilian.

To participate in any of these literary walks it is necessary to make a free prior reservation through a registration request that will be opened on the website of the Board of Trustees of the Alhambra and Generalife from today, Tuesday, October 22, for the walks on the 26th. and October 27; and on November 4, at 12:00 p.m., for the tours on November 9 and 10.
