The Alarming Rise in Global Temperatures and the Urgency to Take Action

Are you feeling increasingly hot these last few days thanks to the rising temperatures? According to experts, you should prepare for much bigger problems, because it will be worse. The climate crisis is constantly deepening and bringing with it more and more extreme meteorological phenomena. This is exactly how one could describe the global events of the last weeks and months, which were marked by rapid floods, but also extreme heat waves. According to climatologists, the last days were also possible the hottest on record and the dreaded warming of more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels is within reach.

In the coming months and years, people should prepare for much more extreme climatic events, which can be a combination of long dry weeks without rain and subsequent heavy rains that can cause even more damage. But it is almost certain that weeks with extreme summer temperatures above 35 °C will increase rapidly in the coming years.

Moreover, the current situation is so alarming that UN Secretary-General António Gutteres, who has long warned of the consequences of ignoring human-caused climate change, has declared that climate change is “out of control”. Gutteres issued his statement in response to record world temperatures on Monday and Tuesday – which were still surpassed in the following days.

The fact that the global temperature already surpassed the record historical temperatures on Sunday, July 2, and the following days increased the record even more, is shown, for example, by mathematical data
University of Maine, USA. According to the university’s Climate Reanalyzer project, for example, on Thursday, July 6, the average global temperature reached 17.23 °C, which is an anomaly of 1.02 °C.

According to UN Secretary Gutteres, it is even more important accelerate key measures to reduce warming. Otherwise, the planet will soon find itself in a catastrophic situation.

Some experts show the rapid warming currently taking place using the example of the atomic bomb. Earth now absorbs more energy from the sun than leaves it. For an idea, in the case of excess energy, it is equivalent four atomic bomb explosions dropped on Hiroshima every second.
