The alarm, but not too much | The Journal of Quebec

Faced with the increase in COVID-19 cases, public health officials are sounding the alarm. While Geneviève Guilbault calls on citizens to turn the tide, Horacio Arruda declares the arrival of the second wave.

Why is this announcement coming from Doctor Arruda rather than the Deputy Prime Minister? Would the policy be slower than desired by Public Health?

Reluctanlty

During the weekend, the police forces roamed the bars of Quebec. In 2,206 establishments, only 90 reports were submitted.

What are the authorities waiting for to crack down? Quebec has now been trying to gain the upper hand on the pandemic for more than six months.

Awareness raising is all well and good, but isn’t it time to get down to business?

The truth is, for many of us, the only language that works is wallet.

We can repeat the importance of reducing gatherings and remembering instructions, but if those who break the rules and endanger the safety of everyone do not want to understand the message, the battle against COVID-19 will never be won.

Freedom, what freedom?

Freedom advocates, who refuse to wear masks and continue to organize house parties, are primarily responsible for the increase in COVID-19 cases. The instructions, they do not care.

It should be obvious, however, that every risky behavior, under the pretext of preserving individual freedom, contributes in the long term to diminishing the freedom of the entire population. “I have the dua!”

Are those who still believe that the pandemic is an illusion, a lie, are they really ready to suffer the blow of new business closures? Are they ready to see their parents die in busy emergency halls?

The only way to regain freedom definitively is to agree to temporarily diminish it.
