Mawlid, (the birth) or also called Maulud which literally means “the born” takes place during the lunar month of Rabi Awwal. This event is an occasion to evoke the life and behavior of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

The tradition of celebrating Mawlid came to our city at the beginning of the 13th century, specifically in the year 1250, from here it was exported to Andalus and the countries of the Great Maghreb by the eldest son of Abu Abbas Al Azafi, (Judge and great Scholar Ceuta), Abu Al Kasem, was the one who founded the principality of the Azafien dynasty in Ceuta, which ruled it for seventy-five years. From this small enclave and finishing the book that his father started about this tradition titled “book of strung pearls on the venerated birth of the Prophet.”

For Muslims, the memory of their birth is closely linked to the principle that governs everything that is good in existence, and although the Sunna does not mention the need to celebrate that event, it is commemorated by the entire “Umma” (worldwide Muslim Community). ) who wishes to symbolically receive the “báraka” (the ‘blessing’, ‘special divine grace’) of the moment in which the Prophet was born, (Peace and blessings of God be upon him).
