/ world today news/ At the moment, there is not a single proposal from the politicians regarding the Bulgarian National Bank and the banking system as a whole, which does not seek to cover the tracks.
The first proposal comes from two parliamentary parties – to dismiss the governor of the BNB, Ivan Iskrov, and replace him with his deputy, Kalin Hristov. For many years, we from the Bulgarian Financial Forum, as well as other colleagues from non-governmental organizations, have criticized the BNB, not only in the face of the governor, but also in the face of all the members of the Management Board, who do not take a different attitude at all and do not distinguish themselves from the positions that the BNB imposes.
This deputy governor, which is proposed by GERB, DPS and the president, is the person who, as we understand, proposed the bank holiday. This is the person who participated in the team that proposed to nationalize the Corporate Commercial Bank. This is the man who proposed that this nationalization should be taken over by the citizens. This is also the man who proposed the insane law to restrict the rights of journalists and anyone who points out weaknesses in the banking system, to be done through an amendment to the Penal Code. It did not occur to this man to propose any similar punishments for bankers who withhold or sell information, i.e. protect corporate or personal interests at the expense of the public interest. In this sense, the proposal is clearly inadequate both on the part of the two political forces, as well as on the part of the president and all those who decided to appoint this person as the governor of the Central Bank.
At the same time, the position of the BSP is not satisfactory either. They say that this person is part of the problem and should not be at the head of the BNB, but do they propose something different? They do not do it, but suggest that the people who currently work at the BNB continue to do their jobs.
In this way, a stalemate situation occurs, in which the manager’s resignation is not accepted shyly, the replacement of the manager with the deputy manager is not accepted, and the other deputy manager is currently under investigation. In other words, things remain unresolved and the way they are at the moment. So the same people who brought about the banking crisis remain at the helm of the regulatory body. These same people have already proven that in a banking crisis they react completely inadequately and are unable to solve the problems in any way.
At the same time, all the official opinions of institutions and politicians on which we base our analyzes are more than contradictory. The same people change their positions several times and it doesn’t seem abnormal at all. They speak today – one thing, tomorrow – another, and the day after – something completely different. This leads to a complete collapse and crisis of institutions.
Only the grace period momentarily reinforces the already abnormally high threshold of tolerance that exists in our society. Such people, wondering how to explain the existence of a pyramid created with the patronage of the state, which served to finance political projects, should not exist in a normal country. I draw attention to a statement by a former director of KTB, in which he mentions how involved or rather dependent on this bank are politicians and trade unionists, who are particularly vocal and without explaining their conflict of interest, compete to give prescriptions to get out of this situation.
In Bulgaria, one key law, which was developed in other places a long time ago, has not yet been adopted – the Law on Lobbying. However, we have a law against trading in influence, and somehow these people have to be sought influence. Regardless of the guise of concern for the common good with which they give their advice, behind each of them his elementary selfish interests shine through.
The president announced with pathos his request to disclose the credit files at KTB, but I don’t see that happening. I doubt the president is getting adequate advice. He is not well informed enough and not a good enough specialist in this field. I’m afraid he’s largely misled and can’t get his bearings. Otherwise, I have nothing against the files being revealed. Let’s see all these politicians and trade unionists who were on the “feeder” in KTB. Let’s see all the political projects financed by this bank. Then you can get out of this backstage that has been poisoning our lives for so many years. The files should be seen by all the media, by the whole society, not only by the prosecutor’s office.
