The Felipe Ángeles International Airport no longer needs subsidies for its operation, and shortly after its inauguration it has managed to be self-sufficient and even have “a little utility,” said President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
“It already has a lot of air traffic, both passengers and cargo, it is already the airport in the country with the most cargo movement. All this has allowed it to have income to finance its operation with a little profit in a very short time,” said the federal president during this Tuesday morning at the National Palace.
He was ironic when referring to the critics of the air terminal by calling them “the eminences, the wise men”, since they have rejected the claim that the AIFA has already reached its “balance point.”
He added: “When is the investment going to be recovered. Well it’s going to take time. Yes, nothing more than the airport, that investment is there, and it belongs to all Mexicans.”
-Are subsidies no longer going to be given to AIFA? -she asked him.
—Not for the operation because it has already started to make profits and also the airlines that are in charge of the transportation of goods are very happy, because the AICM was saturated and they had schedules —he responded.
Likewise, he commented, the air terminal is located “strategically, it has railways, it has the possibility of going to any point in the country without the need to enter Mexico City.”
The head of the Executive asserted that passenger traffic will increase for the second half of this year, since in July he will inaugurate the expansion of the Interurban Train that will connect from the Buenavista terminal, in the center of Mexico City, to the AIFA, in only 45 minutes.
