The Monitoring Commission of the La Pilica Agrarian Demonstration Center (CDA), in Águilas, belonging to the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment, has agreed to promote new technology transfer projects related to tomato cultivation in agriculture ecological to evaluate the behavior of new varieties of tomato type rose.
With this, the CDA works for the differentiation of the tomato of the Region of Murcia, which is grown in the municipality of Águilas, with a product of greater nutritional and ecological value.
The CDA Monitoring Commission is made up of representatives of the Ministry’s Training and Technology Transfer Service, headed by the Head of the Service, Antonio Aroca, and Fecamur Unión de Cooperativas, headed by its manager, José Martínez Usero.
Increasing the quality of productions in the Region of Murcia and the development of a more sustainable agriculture are the main objectives of the Ministry of Agriculture and are in line with the objectives set in the “Farm-to-table Strategy” ( Farm to fork) for a fair, healthy and environmentally friendly food system ”of the European Union, in which the European agricultural sector is urged to reduce dependence on pesticides and antimicrobials, reduce excess fertilization and increase agriculture ecological.
According to the EU, the Farm to Fork Strategy is an essential element of the Green Deal, which recognizes the inextricable links between healthy people, healthy societies and a healthy planet.
The strategy is also a critical component of the Commission’s agenda to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The shift to a sustainable food system can bring environmental, health and social benefits, offer economic benefits, and ensure that recovery from the crisis puts us on a sustainable path.
