/Pogled.iinfo/ The political agreement between Russia and Greece for the construction of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline is ready for signing, announced the Minister of Production Reform, Environment and Energy of Greece Panagiotis Lafazanis.
“The Greek delegation is going to St. Petersburg or Leningrad – as you like – for the economic forum. We intend to develop our good contacts, and we will have the opportunity… to sign the Russia-Greece political agreement for the construction of the gas pipeline on Greek territory,” Lafazanis said, RIA Novosti reported.
Asked if the difficult situation surrounding the negotiations with creditors would prevent Prime Minister Tsipras from attending the forum, Lafazanis replied: “No, Tsipras will attend. He will head our government delegation.”
On December 1, 2014, Putin stated that Russia cannot, under the current conditions, continue the implementation of South Stream. Moscow and Ankara then agreed on the construction of an offshore gas pipeline to Turkey and the creation of a gas hub on the Turkish-Greek border for southern European consumers. It is expected that the EU countries will independently realize the transport connections on their territory. Greece expects to receive cheaper gas and income from its transit when the project is implemented.
The capacity of the new pipeline will be 63 billion cubic meters, of which about 50 billion will be supplied to the new gas hub on the Turkish-Greek border. A volume of 15.75 billion cubic meters will be supplied to the Turkish market, with deliveries likely to begin in December 2016.
