It’s amazing how the cartoon was missed by censors.
The multi-part film “The Adventures of Captain Vrungel” was first released in 1980. The adventure cartoon tells about the misadventures of retired captain Vrungel, as well as his assistant Lom and sailor Fuchs. However, there were scenes in the work of David Cherkassky, because of which “Vrungel” could be banned.
There was strict censorship in the Soviet Union. Pictures aimed at children were especially carefully checked. The authorities were afraid that the younger generation would be indoctrinated with alien values and harmful ideas. However, in the case of the cult cartoon, the censors turned a blind eye to provocative moments.
Italian bandits adhere to a completely unhealthy lifestyle: the heroes drink alcohol and smoke cigars on camera. In addition, the villains stole a sculpture of the Roman goddess Venus, which turned out to be completely naked – unheard of frankness.
