In September 2021, the actual unemployment rate in Latvia was 6.4%, which is 0.5% lower than in August, according to the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) labor force survey data. The actual unemployment rate in the country has not been so low since December 2019 (6.6%).
The unemployment rate for women decreased by 0.3% to 5.4% in September, while for men – by 0.6% to 7.5%.
The unemployment rate registered with the State Employment Agency (SEA) was 6%, which is 0.5% lower than in August. Compared to September of the previous year, the actual unemployment rate has decreased by 1.6% of the registered unemployment – by 1.7%.
In September 2021, there were 60.4 thousand unemployed in Latvia (25.1 thousand women and 35.3 thousand men), which is 4.3 thousand less than in August and 17.3 thousand less than in the corresponding period last year.
During the month, the number of unemployed women has decreased by 1.7 thousand, men – by 2.6 thousand.
The registered unemployment rate in the SEA is calculated using the data available to the agency on registered unemployed and the data provided by the CSB on the economically active population (employed and unemployed).
SEA data are only for the working age population. Unadjusted monthly estimates of the survey are used for the actual unemployment rate.
