Belmondo was truly the star that united the world. His films toured festivals, his face enchanting the crowds at television screens. He was loved by both sides of the Iron Curtain, and if he hadn’t refused to learn English, he could have conquered Hollywood, where the producers had kept the door open for a long time. Belmondo eventually remained loyal to its continent, so it can be said that it did not even reach its maximum potential on the world market. However, given the size of his name in Europe and the cinephile culture, this can hardly be seen as a bad decision.
In the Czech Republic, we know him mainly from his comedic and action roles of the seventies. The parody film The Man from Acapulco from 1973 defined high-quality family entertainment in Czechoslovakia as well. In the West and among film connoisseurs, Belmondo is especially remembered
