The well-known and versatile actor, model, poet and communicator Fernando Gabelo has died today in Ourense at the age of 70.
Gabelo began his theatrical career at the age of 16 within the Valle Inclán Theater group in Ourense. At the age of 19, he passed the entrance exam for the Royal School of Dramatic Art and Dance of Madrid, which he combines working as a model both in the capital of Spain and in Lisbon, Rome or Milan.
At the age of 22 he returned to Ourense and joined the Hinstrion Theater group. Already in 2003, by the hand of Segundo Alvarado, he formed the group Palabra Viva.
Later, in 2013, he founded the aSolo Teatro Cultural partnership with Matilde and David Vázquez. The play “Solo” was one of his most recognized works. It premiered in Ourense on September 19, 2014 and had to resume the performance at popular request, with a tour of several Spanish provinces. It was even performed in New York, on a trip that Gabelo could no longer attend due to illness. A success of its own despite that distance that arrived on November 11, 2017, San Martiño’s day.
He has been a contributor to the newspaper La Región and a regular face of the media.
In 2018 he returned to the stage tables and the radio microphones after a bad stage in which he could not develop all the projects due to illness. That same year, for example, he was in charge of giving the proclamation at the A Ponte festivals, in a city where this “comedian from the provinces”, as he defined himself, was loved and known.
