It’s storming around Bobby Kotick at the moment, after the Activision Blizzard boss was recently accused of having covered over harassment and discrimination at the company. Both employees and shareholders want him away, and allegedly Kotick himself has aired the idea of quitting.
According to sources who have spoken with The Wall Street Journal (via VG247) Kotick recently discussed the possibility of resigning during a board meeting last week.
The top manager has no immediate plans to resign. He said, however, that he would consider his position if the problems are not cleared up as soon as possible.
Criticism from Nintendo
At the same time, Nintendo has also joined the ranks of players who are dissatisfied with the Activision Blizzard situation. In an internal email, Nintendo of America CEO Doug Bowser writes (via Fanbyte) that the new report is disturbing.
– Just like you, I have followed the latest developments at Activision Blizzard and the reports on sexual harassment and culture at the company. I find these stories disturbing and unpleasant. They conflict with my values and the values and guidelines of Nintendo.
Bowser further says that he has asked ESA – the gaming industry organization of which both Nintendo and Activision Blizzard are members – to take a hard line against harassment in the workplace.
Previously, both have PlayStation and Xbox distanced from what is going on at Activision Blizzard.
