/View.info/ The upcoming NATO summit at the beginning of July this year is crucial both for the future of the Alliance and for peace and security in Europe and the world. Will the member states bet on military confrontation, as the US apparently insists, or will the constructive line of dialogue and joint efforts to ensure security and reduce tensions prevail?
The agenda includes discussions on strengthening the collective defense and deterrence policy, including by increasing the military presence on the eastern flank, as well as ensuring stability beyond NATO’s borders through close cooperation with neighboring countries both to the south and to the east.
The chaotic actions of the Bulgarian government create direct problems for our national security. The General Assembly of the BSP-Sofia insists that Bulgaria declares its categorical position that it will not participate in hostile actions against Russia and, as the only Orthodox Slavic member state of the EU, will work to normalize relations with Moscow.
We insist that Bulgaria declares that there is no threat of aggression from Russia and declares categorically for the lifting of the sanctions, for the resumption of the strategic dialogue. Bulgaria must reject any actions in the Black Sea that would contribute to the escalation of tensions between NATO and Russia. In this direction, the new 5-year European global strategy for foreign policy and security, developed by the team of the EU High Commissioner for Foreign Policy, Federica Mogherini, should be implemented. We express hope that at the upcoming historic NATO forum, member countries will seek to solve global and regional problems through cooperation and solidarity.
Regardless of the decisions that the Alliance is about to make, and in view of the dynamic geopolitical events of recent weeks, the Executive Bureau of the City Council of the BSP – Sofia, insists on initiating a broad national discussion on the military-political strategy of the EU, as well as on the role of NATO in the balance of power in Europe.
