According to Microsoft, the planned acquisition of Activision Blizzard is only a good thing for gamers. But the latter disagree.
Meanwhile, the acquisition process by Microsoft has been going on for almost six months. The US competition authority FTC recently launched a case to stop the acquisition of the monsters. Europe is also very concerned about the market situation which may no longer be competitive. And yesterday it became known that a number of gamers are also Microsoft want to bring to courthoping to stop the takeover.
Microsoft is now responding by curtly stating that the acquisition is “a good thing for gamers.” That’s what they tell the news agency Reuters. “Microsoft is the third largest console maker. The acquisition of a game studio cannot distort competition in the gaming industry,” Microsoft told the FTC.
Concerns for Activision Blizzard
Competitor Sony had already indicated that Microsoft would like to make a number of major game series exclusively for Xbox consoles. Microsoft has already announced that it would like to release titles like Call of Duty for at least another 10 years for PlayStation. For Call of Duty itself, Microsoft has already signed a 10-year deal with that third gaming giant, Nintendo.
Microsoft itself seems confident and expects the acquisition to be approved anyway. It can therefore include in its portfolio the studios behind major game series such as Call of Duty, but also Crash Bandicoot, Warcraft and Overwatch. Activision Blizzard itself is not at all against an acquisition and expects it to happen.
