The Accident Investigation Board Norway will not investigate the plane crash in Beiarn – NRK Nordland

The Armed Forces will also have a representative in the survey who will ensure the sharing of security-relevant information.

The Accident Investigation Board Norway (SHK) has received assurances that the American forces’ safety investigation will only have an accident prevention purpose, writes SHK.

On Thursday 24 March, it became known that the public prosecutor in Nordland had decided to give the main responsibility for the investigation of the accident to the American authorities.

The plane crashed in Beiarn in Nordland on Friday 18 March when it was on a training mission as part of the NATO exercise Cold Response. Four American soldiers were on board, and all perished.

The plane hit the terrain in Reinfjellryggen in Gråtådalen in Beiarn.

Due to bad weather, the rescue helicopter could not land or deploy personnel on site. The bad weather and the risk of avalanches in the area made it impossible for the AIBN, the police and American personnel to begin documenting the accident area before Sunday 20 March.

The AIBN has later been at the scene of the accident together with the American investigation team and arranged for the transfer of information.
