The Floral Games were instituted in 1323, in Toulouse, by seven troubadours, gentlemen and bourgeois of Toulouse, wishing to create a poetry competition endowed with a golden violet. The first poetic joust was held on May 3, 1324.
With the support of the capitouls (city magistrates), the seven formed the “Consistori del Gay Saber” which perpetuated the competition, endowed it with numerous prizes and promoted the rules of rhetoric and the poetic art. But the revolutionary period led to the dispersion of the members of the Academy and the suspension of its activities. It was restored in 1806 and since then the Academy has continued to award prizes.
Thus every May 3 in the Salle des Illustres du Capitole de Toulouse, she praises Clémence Isaure who in the 15th century would have bequeathed her fortune for the perpetuation of the Floral Games, and she gives her prizes and her flowers, previously blessed at the Basilica of the Sea Bream. Ronsard, Voltaire, Chateaubriand and Victor Hugo were laureates of the Academy competitions. Considered the oldest learned society in Europe, the Académie des Jeux florals was recognized as being of public utility in 1923.
A great honor therefore for the island author whose book “Les cloisonssupplies” is her 7th work after “L’ochju” (Editions Dumane), “Alterations”, “A l’iridescence”, “D’écore et de mousse of foam and embers”, “My gap your home” (Editions Fior di Carta) and “Latent Images and A little more than two months” (Editions Fior di Carta). The award will be presented on May 3.
« I am very happy to have received a reward from this centuries-old competition » declares the winner. ” In addition, the jury is made up of members who are all connoisseurs and lovers of poetry, including the poets James Sacré, Jean Pierre Simeon, or Adonis, poets for whom I have a lot of admiration, so I can’t wait to discover the comments of the jury, this award touches me and encourages me in the pursuit of my poetic path, I am also happy for the Arzilla editions and for the village of Rutali and its poets quoted in this collection».
In “Les cloisons souples” Carine Adolfini in fact evokes the memory of a Corsican village, Rutali, and the effects of time on people and places. It particularly highlights “La Villa di Rutali”, today a guest house. ” The house, which has stood the test of time, has protected the memories of the deceased, they still perfume the space, there are photos under the dust, press clippings, old objects, a whole smell of the past underlines Carine Adolfini. ” The villa once served as a school. It belonged to Father Casta who also organized the meeting of valiant souls, including the actress Marie-Josée Nat. In earlier times, silk was cultivated there, the space still throbs with memories of this place of happy carelessness, the tears of seeing the members of a family leave are palpable, these moments of pain which little by little have led the house to ruin. All these sensations added to the stories told by “i rutalacci” nourished the writing of this book ».
After receiving her award on Wednesday May 3 in Toulouse, Carine Adolfini will present her book “Les Cloisons Souples” on Thursday May 4 at 5:30 p.m. at the IRA premises in Bastia as part of the literary meetings organized by the Musanostra association.
