The academic director of Eure-et-Loir discovers “La Gazette de Farman”, a school newspaper for students at the Henry Farman school in Chartres

“What is the role of the media? “Asks the academic director of the national education services of Eure-et-Loir, Évelyne Mège, to the students of CE1, CE2 and CM2 at the Henry-Farman school, in Chartres. The young Chartrains, who have become apprentice journalists, have their own idea. It’s to make a journal to learn things,” they say. “It’s a sign of freedom because countries can’t. »

On the occasion of the 36th week of the press and the media, the academic director came, this Monday, March 21, to obtain the school newspaper, built from scratch by the schoolchildren.

four months of work

The first issue of La Gazette de Farman was released on March 1. The students had four months to write it. They tell Évelyne Mège: “We were in pairs and we had to find a subject we wanted to talk about. We did a lot of research and entered what we had written on the computers. »

Thus, some have worked on Area 51 and its secrets, others on the turtle. “And we also did an interview with the director. »

Composed of about ten pages, the school journal also includes cooking recipes, puzzles and a comic strip. “We sold our newspaper to the school, to our parents and to our grandparents. They were proud,” explain CM2 students. Évelyne Mège congratulates them:

“It’s great what you’ve done, well done! The media are a great wealth. They must be kept to present the different opinions. »

Several topic ideas

La Gazette de Farman should have a number 2 soon. “We already want to do a second newspaper, we have lots of ideas,” admit the schoolchildren. The theme of the different countries was discussed, that of the presidential election too, but the CE1 students have already found the subject of their first article: “We are going to write an article about you”, they confide to the academic director.

This time, other classes of the school should participate, making the Gazette a real school newspaper. New journalists regret one thing: “That our newspaper does not sell in stores like The Republican Echo. »

The succession is assured !
