Over the past year, the e-commerce industry has experienced extremely rapid growth – the number of both merchants and buyers has increased. In the last six months, almost 90% of the Latvian population has used various Latvian e-commerce websites, which is an increase of 16% over the last three years, according to data from the Internet research and technology company Gemius.

However, although the sale of goods and services on the Internet is borderless and 24/7, this does not mean that doing business in the digital environment will immediately lead to commercial success. The abundance of visual material and information in the digital environment is very easy to confuse, so e-businesses need to make an effort to ensure that their product or service does not disappear among the myriad offers.

According to Yuri Ivanov, co-founder and marketing director of the online marketing platform “Joom”, before promoting a product or service in the digital environment and developing an e-shop, you need to check how popular your offer is. This can also be done very well on ready-made trading platforms, such as “Shopify” or “BigCommerce”. It is also advisable to seriously consider how to sell your product in other countries, as it must be taken into account that the Latvian market is very small.

Today, the online shopper is more demanding than ever, due to the growing opportunities of e-commerce, so e-merchants not only need to think about the benefits of goods and services in a highly competitive environment, but also to develop an easy-to-use and easy-to-understand e-commerce site.

According to Ivanov, it is important for an online shopper that goods or services are available at a good price, as well as reliable and convenient delivery is ensured in the shortest possible time.
