The Ministry of Public Health published its third report on the effectiveness of the anticovid vaccines carried out by the Population Health Area of the General Directorate of Health. The objective of this work “is to monitor the effectiveness of the vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 in the prevention of infection, serious illness and mortality by SARS-CoV-2”, the portfolio indicates.
With data updated to June 30, it is highlighted that at least one dose of the vaccine against covid-19 was given to 63.8% of the population and that, of the total of the country, 46.7% is inoculated with the two doses of the defined scheme. “This figure is a great achievement for the country, the result of successful planning and the adherence of the population to the campaign,” the report highlights.
To determine if the change in trend is significant, a “segmented regression” analysis was performed. This analysis identified that day 95 from the start of vaccination was a “tipping point”. “This turning point in the incidence of COVID-19 coincides with the moment when vaccination coverage of 64% with one dose and 36% with two doses is reached,” the report highlights.
Likewise, it was possible to identify that the reduction in covid-19 cases, having elapsed more than 14 days since the last dose of Pfizer vaccine, is 78% in the general population and 75.9% in health personnel. For the Sinovac vaccine, the reduction in cases, having elapsed more than 14 days since the last dose, is 59.93% in the general population.
Regarding ICU admissions, the report indicates that the reduction in hospitalization, having elapsed more than 14 days since the last dose of Sinovac vaccine, is 90.87% for the general population. Meanwhile, for Pfizer it is 96.16% in the general population and 96.10% in health personnel.
“The reduction in mortality from COVID-19, having elapsed more than 14 days since the last dose of Sinovac vaccine, is 94.65% in the general population,” the report concludes.
