Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Many people instinctively consider carnivorous predators such as lions, tigers and bears to be at the top of the list of the most dangerous animals to humans on earth. Apparently not.

Unexpectedly, the deadliest non-human animals are probably mosquitoes and snakes which can kill hundreds to millions of people every year.

The following is a list of the 9 most dangerous creatures for humans, as quoted by AZ Animals, Saturday (12/8/2023):

9. Crocodile

Officially, crocodiles claim 1,000 human lives a year, but researchers believe the number could be much higher, with many of the reptile’s attacks going unreported.

Crocodiles are endemic to Africa, Asia, Australia and America. In particular, they live in freshwater rivers, lakes, and wetlands, and are very protective of their offspring.

Nile and saltwater crocodiles most often prey on humans, but only giant crocodiles have managed to kill. One advantage they have over others is their quick reaction time.

8. Scorpions

Famous for their sting, the eight-legged scorpion can be found on every continent except Antarctica. Scorpions are also animals that sleep during the day and hunt at night.

But the poison in their bodies has killed about 3,250 humans per year. In fact, of the 1,750 species of scorpions, only 25 have venom strong enough to kill humans. Most of the scorpion-related deaths occur in rural areas within hours of an antivenom-equipped medical facility.

7. Freshwater Snail

Even though it looks harmless, snails are apparently the animals that kill the most humans. Freshwater snails are even said to have microscopic teeth.

Snails may be a delicacy in some parts of the world, but some freshwater species kill around 10,000 people each year. That’s because molluscs carry schistosomiasis, aka snail fever, a disease that can be fatal.

Unfortunately, the condition mostly affects children in developing countries and adult farmers and fishermen who regularly handle contaminated water. Therefore, the best way to eradicate snail fever is to increase access to clean drinking water worldwide.

6. Killer Insects

The killer bug (Assassin Bug) transmits Chagas disease, which kills about 10,000 people a year. They mainly live in South America, Central America and Mexico.

Assassin bugs are known as kissing bugs because they like to bite people’s eyes and lips while we sleep. The Assassin Bug’s forelimbs are for killing prey and provide a firm grip. The female Assassin Bug is the best hunter of both sexes because the female needs more protein in her diet.

In addition, the severity of the disease varies from person to person. Some people who are infected have mild symptoms and recover within a week; others die from it, which can lead to congestive heart failure if left untreated.

5. Lalat Tsetse

Also called the tick-tick fly, the tsetse fly lives in tropical Africa, and its bite causes about 10,000 deaths per year. The ticks most commonly transmit African trypanosomiasis, aka African sleeping sickness.

A very dangerous disease, the symptoms do not appear for one to three weeks after infection. In the early stages, victims experience fever, headache, joint pain, and itching.

After a while, confusion, loss of coordination, neurological decline, and difficulty sleeping ensue. Finally, people who are not treated usually die from complications associated with the condition.

4. Dogs

Dogs may be called man’s best friend, but they also kill a lot of humans. Every year, between 25,000 and 35,000 people die from rabies, which is transmitted through dog bites. Although the virus is preventable and treatable through vaccines and antibiotics, access to such medicines in remote areas is minimal.

Additionally, the majority of deaths from dog bites occur in Africa, Asia, Central America, Eastern Europe, Russia and South America. In the United States, researchers estimate that dogs bite 4.5 million people each year, 30 of which prove fatal. Additionally, dogs are responsible for 86,000 fall-related accidents each year in North America.

3. They are

When it comes to the animals that kill the most humans, the bite of a venomous snake is a lethal weapon that kills up to 100,000 or more people each year. The scourge of snake deaths is so severe in some parts of the world that former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan once called it the biggest public health crisis.

Currently, about 3,500 species of snakes crawl around the Earth. Of those, about 600 are venomous. In terms of potency, the Inland Taipan is the most venomous snake species, but they don’t kill most humans.

In particular, in South Asia and India, cobras, common snakes, Russell’s vipers and scaly vipers are responsible for the most human deaths.

Rattlesnakes and Bothrop pit vipers do the most damage in Central and South America. Meanwhile, carpet vipers and elapids in the Middle East, and the black mamba, puffer adder, and carpet viper in Africa.

Therefore, to help reduce mortality, various organizations offer anti-poison supplies and training to people in rural areas.

On the other hand, North America and Europe are far less plagued by snake deaths, with only 10 deaths combined per year.

2. Mosquitoes

Kills between 750,000 and 1,000,000 Humans Every Year

Representing 17% of the global burden of infectious diseases, mosquito bites kill between 750,000 and 1,000,000 people a year. Mosquitoes thrive everywhere on Earth, except Antarctica and, due to vigilant pest control systems. However, it is this ability of mosquitoes to adapt that makes them so dangerous to humans.

In addition, mosquitoes are attracted to compounds in human breath and sweat, including carbon dioxide, lactic acid and octenol. Surprisingly, of the 3,500+ species of mosquitoes, only a small percentage chase humans.

Depending on the area, mosquitoes can carry several deadly diseases to humans.

1. Humans

Humans may be the smartest species on the planet, but they are also the most destructive creatures, and are responsible for killing the most people each year.

In addition to the annual worldwide number of homicides and suicides of 530,000, millions of accidental deaths caused by motor vehicle accidents and medical malpractice place Homo sapiens, the most dominant species on earth, at the top of the list of other earth’s creatures, as the most dangerous in the universe. .
