The 87-year-old was unattended for 16 hours at the nursing home. When someone finally looked in on her, she was dead.

Only when the fire alarm went off at 1.15 pm on the first Wednesday in June did employees at Bjølsenhjemmet check how Else Andersson was doing. Then they discovered that she was dead. No one had seen her in 16 hours.

Else Andersson was escorted into her room just before 10 pm on a June evening. Only when the fire alarm went off at 13 o’clock the next day was she seen. Then she was dead.

When a fire alarm goes off, staff must take a check on all residents.

Only when this round was done did an employee discover that Else Andersson was not asleep, but was actually dead. The last time anyone saw her alive was before 10 pm the night before. The family has received this information from the nursing home in Oslo.
